The great Romanian composer, conductor and performer made his American debut in January 1923, but did not visit Canada until his 1931-1932 tour, when he played Montreal.
Years later (in January 1937) the Women’s Musical Club finally had him arrive to Toronto, and the locals loved it!
On Saturday, September 7th, the George Enescu Festival opens its inaugural Canadian edition with “A tribute to George Enescu”, a recital featuring acclaimed Canadian violinist and Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) Concertmaster Jonathan Crow.
The “George Enescu” Festival, named for the famous Romanian composer, is one of the most prominent classical music festivals in Europe. Held in Romania since 1958, the festival is expanding its stage to a global scale.
